Why am I seeing "Need Admin Approval" when re-authorizing Microsoft Ads in Adverity?
Last updated: June 1, 2026
Context
When attempting to re-authorize a Microsoft Ads datastream in Adverity, you may encounter a "Need admin approval" screen. This happens because the Adverity Datatap application requires tenant-level consent from a Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) Global Administrator — this is separate from your Microsoft Advertising account role, so even Super Admins on Microsoft Advertising may be blocked by this prompt.
Answer
To resolve this, your organization's Microsoft Entra Global Administrator must grant tenant-wide admin consent to the Adverity Datatap enterprise application. Adverity requests the following scopes during authorization:
https://ads.microsoft.com/msads.manage— to read and manage Microsoft Advertising reporting dataoffline_access— to generate a refresh token so data updates automatically
Ask your Global Administrator to follow these steps:
Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center (portal.azure.com) as a Global Administrator.
Browse to Identity → Applications → Enterprise applications → All applications.
Search for and select the Adverity Datatap application.
Under the Security section, click on Permissions.
Click the blue "Grant admin consent for <Organization>" button and accept the Microsoft prompt.
If the Adverity Datatap app does not appear in the "All applications" list, your IT admin can do one of the following:
Navigate to Identity → Applications → Enterprise applications → Consent and permissions → User consent settings and temporarily toggle it to "Allow user consent for apps".
Alternatively, enable the Admin consent requests workflow, which allows you to send a direct approval request to your admin via the login screen.
Once your IT Admin confirms that admin consent has been granted, return to Adverity and use the Re-authorize button on your Microsoft Ads datastream. If the issue persists, try completing the re-authorization in an Incognito/private browser window to ensure a fresh connection to the API.
